Patson Daka Grabs Injury-Time Goal to Earn Zambia Versus Mali at Afcon.
Patson Daka brought to a close a 20-month goal dry spell for Zambia with his last-gasp header in Casablanca.
Patson Daka proved to be the savior for Chipolopolo as his stoppage-time header earned a thrilling 1-1 tie against Mali at the 2025 continental finals in Morocco.
Mali Takes Early Control
Lassine Sinayoko had given his side the lead just after the 60-minute mark in the tournament's opening group clash at the Stade Mohammed V, firing in from close range after his initial attempt from a set-piece had been blocked.
Mali dictated the play and were awarded an opportunity to take the lead in the closing stages of the first half after Nene Dorgeles was fouled in the penalty area by Chipolopolo defender Matthews Banda.
El Bilal Toure took responsibility for Mali but his powerful strike was brilliantly parried by Chipolopolo goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.
The Striker's Dramatic Intervention
Daka later salvaged a draw for the 2012 Afcon winners, who were for the most part overwhelmed by the aerial strength of the Malians until the defender's delivery into the box was met by the attacker.
Tournament Standings
This draw means each team two points behind host nation the Atlas Lions in the Group A table after Morocco won their first match 2-0 against Comoros at the weekend.
Chipolopolo will remain in the city to play their next game against their next opponents on the coming Friday, while The Eagles journey to Rabat for a crucial match against Morocco.
