Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

Passenger services have restarted at Edinburgh Airport after a significant air traffic control outage halted all operations.

Every arrival and departure were halted due to an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac as the outage continued.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, considerable delays are expected to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been axed, with many others facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their booked journeys," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the operational halt to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Travelers should still plan to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as residual delays are cleared.
